REGIONAL FOCUS AND ACTIVITY
Regional environmental strengths:
forest preserves, current use of recycling, less congestion
Regional environmental challenges:
uneven/inconsistency in recycling, flooding, vacant lots and the Southwest being forgotten and less “green” development
What is this region working on right now?
Vacant lots, weatherization, education and light pollution
What has this region done recently?
Weatherization seminars, composting/rain barrel use
What we would like to accomplish in the future:
We will pursue more educational programming at the library and in the southwest region as a whole. Additionally, we will explore more beautification projects, working with other groups and on individual projects.
Nicole will check on vacant lot at 115th and Western, Beverly Improvement Association.
Michele will check on Marquette Park garden, and their need for support.
Mary Abeleda will host an Earth Day event on April 20 from 9am-12pm.
Bubbly Creek/35th and the River is the closest ‘Southside’ River Day site, May 14, 9am-12pm.
If anyone would like to volunteer at Green Festival, they should contact Lauren Daniel.
