C3 Spring 2010 leadership training has ended and a new round of 35 trainees will head back to their neighborhoods and prepare to get their projects underway. A handful of C3 trainees will be implementing their first projects this month, less than a month after training has concluded. Benefit Gala for Roots and Rays Community Garden

You are warmly invited to this gala celebrating community gardening, organic produce, and local green space! Join in this truly urban-garden loft to enjoy fancy fresh seasonal cocktails, verdant summer treats and live music to benefit the growth of Roots and Rays!
Roots and Rays is a small community garden in Pilsen made up of eight humble raised beds growing a variety of produce, herbs and flowers to engage the neighborhood with cooking workshops, gardening, and composting. This project aims to provide a much-needed green space for thriving community in an environmentally unsound area.
So come don your fancy pants and your green thumbs !

C3 Leader, Madeline Morgan: “Good Clean Fun”

Burnham Elementary School‎, 1903 East 96th
Madeline Morgan will conduct a “Make your own cleaning liquid” seminar for K-4th grade students and their parents during an end of the year carnival at Burnham School. Students will make safe, non-toxic cleaners in spray bottles for use at home. Madeline and her team will educate participants on the benefits of this activity because of the removal of toxins from the home, lower cost for cleaning products, and better air quality in the home.

C3 Leader, Cheryl Watson: Cooling Chicago’s Climate
10:00-4:00
At the Burnham Elementary School carnival, Cheryl will introduce the concept of Climate Change and what effects it has in Chicago, as well as discuss ways that we can reduce, reuse and recycle to reduce our carbon footprint. Students will demonstrate their understanding of recycling by playing a Recycling Relay game. Students will be asked to complete pledge cards and adults will take the $800 Savings Challenge.

C3 Leader, Gabriel Irurhe: Go Green at the 18th Ward Gospel Fest!
9:00am-5:00pm
Hayes Park, 2936 West 85th
Gabriel will lead a workshop on the benefits of rain barrels and compost bins for the residents of the 18th ward. Workshop attendees will be eligible for a $30 rebate on their very own rain barrel or compost bin. Both the demonstration compost bin and rain barrel will be raffled off of two lucky winners. Gabriel will team up with fellow C3 Leaders who will help provide additional information on weatherization, energy efficiency, recycling and more.
