The City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District are concerned about BP’s plans to expand their Whiting refinery, increasing the pollutants they discharge into the Great Lakes. The City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District believe BP’s plan, and the precedent it sets, jeopardizes 30 years of efforts to protect the Great Lakes and keep our region an unparalleled place to live, work and raise a family.

Does anyone know if this is even out of the ordinary? Don’t companies still depend on the lake, canals and rivers for the “solution to pollution through dilution?” Is the major difference in this case just the media coverage? Any Sierra Club Lawyers out there who can explain this to me?
