Recycling Map Project Update

This from Sharon Rolek on her Recycling Map project…

My C3 Community Project is The Lake Calumet Area Recycling Drop-Off Site Map — since we are at the end of the earth and not part of the Blue-Cart Program.

We want to include as many different types of sites as possible (i.e., clothes, craft items, etc.). The city’s list is only their 15 sites, while there are lots of other private sites, or buy-back metal sites. We will include some south suburbs and some NW Indiana = Lake Calumet Area.

We have an enthusiastic team, but no time for meetings, so it’s all email — hit and miss. We have realized that printing will be very expensive; good thing the final map will be electronic so anyone can access the information from the sites of a few participating organizations.

The map will be the basis for doing lots of outreach/education about recycling, reducing and reusing, etc.

Can’t wait to be able to link to the electronic version of this map!

Take Heart, Sharon! Bureaucracy does slow things down, but in the end we will all get our blue bins! I’ve done my part collecting signatures requesting blue bins in our ward, for our alderman to turn in to the City Council. Eventually they will come. Yes, and we can all be stewards for the Earth!
