Gina Mallory sent this to our email list. I think it’s worth keeping in our record here.
I finally did it. After years of complaining about receiving so many catalogs through the mail as I tossed them into the recycling bin, I decided to put a stop to it. And it’s been much easier than I feared it would be.
For those out there who haven’t yet taken the leap, here’s how I’m doing it:
Each time I receive a catalog, I go to the company’s website, select the customer service link, and then select the privacy policy link. Once there, I almost always find instructions on how to remove myself from the mailing list. Sometimes I’m instructed to send an email; other times I have to make a phone call to a toll-free number. If I don’t find instructions on the website, I simply cut out my mailing address from the catalog and mail it back to the company with a note saying, “NO MORE CATALOGS.”
I’m not sure how many natural resources this will end up saving, but I sure wish I had done this sooner.
We could do a lot of fancy calculations to guess at how many trees might be saved, but I prefer to focus on that sense of power that comes with doing these things that just feel like the right thing to do. Go Gina, Go!
