Cheap Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs

The Northern Illinois Energy Project and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance are teaming up to offer very cheap compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) at Walgreens and Family Dollar stores all over the Chicago region. The bulbs are the equivalent of 60 watt incandescents, and cost $1 each. They are sold in 4-packs costing $4. Click here for more information about this program and for a complete list of participating stores.

Wondering why you should bother replacing your old incandescents with CFLs? According to the online environmental magazine Grist, “if every American household replaced 5 incandescents with high-efficiency fixtures or bulbs, it would keep a trillion pounds of greenhouse gases out of the air.” This is your chance to prevent a trillion pounds of gunk from entering the atmosphere — for only $5.
